Product Defects that Affect Children

What are Product Defects?

Products are needed and used every day by every person on the planet. The products we buy can offer us an amazing range of functionality simply depending on what their purposes are. Entertainment, cooking help, assistance with heavy duty projects, crafting assistance, and automotive care are just some of the ways products help us in our lives, and this list is not even close to being comprehensive of all the products we can use today.

Although we often think of products being just for adults, we have many products that are geared towards children and infants that we, as adults, buy and provide to them. This can be quite a nice experience since gifting your children new things often fills us with joy, but this can also turn into a terrible experience if the product you buy for your children turns out to be defective. Defective products are products that do not work as they were designed. These defects can cause injuries or death to occur, which is a terrifying thought when it regards our children. Defective products around our children are never a good experience, but it's important to know that if your child was injured by a defective product, there are people ready to help you.

Product Defects that Directly Affect Children

Children have a large variety of products geared towards them, and depending on the product, the danger and injuries that can result from a defect can be severe. Some of the products that can be defective and hurt children include:

baby cry.jpgCribs: Cribs are the beds where our children sleep for the first few years of their lives. These beds are expected to be safe and well-constructed for our children, so when they end up hurting our children, we can be left feeling scared and frustrated. Cribs have been recalled for issues like having the siding fall and strangle the babies inside or having parts come loose and fall into the bed, which children can choke on easily.

Toys: Toys are important for child development for many reasons, but not all toys are created equal. Many toys made for children are made of either dangerous materials or are poorly created, which can lead to a defect that will cause a child to be hurt seriously. When buying toys, it's important to check the quality as much as possible before you make your purchase, that way you can best ensure your child will be safe.

Infant medication: Sometimes, prepackaged formulas get it wrong. In 2019, infant ibuprofen was recalled due to possible unsafe levels of medicine. Although this recall was voluntary, meaning that the company responsible for the defect was not forced to recall the product, many children could have been injured, and many parents were left questioning how they could care for their child when they can't even trust the medicine they have on hand.
