Fatal pedestrian accident kills woman and injures her brother

Pedestrians in New Jersey must be vigilant when it comes to motor vehicles. This is true whether they are crossing the street or walking on the sidewalk. Given their vulnerability to serious injuries and death if they are hit by a car, pedestrian accidents can have lifelong consequences personally and financially. Those who have been injured in a pedestrian crash or lost a loved one in a fatal pedestrian accident need to be aware of the importance of filing a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit.

A brother and sister were hit by a car as they stood on the sidewalk at approximately 7:45 a.m. The sister, 34, was killed; the brother, 30, was seriously injured. According to law enforcement, a white 2006 Mitsubishi hit them. The sister was declared dead at the site of the accident. The brother was taken to the hospital and was said to be in critical condition. The driver of the car, a 25-year-old man, stayed at the scene and there are currently no charges filed against him. The investigation into the incident continues.

When a pedestrian is hit by a motor vehicle, there is the chance that there will be significant injuries that could end up being fatal. Even if the person survives, he or she might have broken bones, cuts and worse. This can require a hospital stay, surgical procedures, rehabilitation and the accompanying medical expenses. If the victim suffered head injuries or spinal cord damage, there is a chance that care will be needed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This can put a strain on a family personally and financially. With a fatality, the family will have to go on without their loved one. Insurance companies will likely make an offer to preclude a lawsuit, but when all the costs are calculated, it is often not sufficient to compensate them fully.

In this accident, a woman died and her brother was hospitalized with serious injuries after being hit by a car. While the police are still conducting their investigation, it is imperative that their family protect themselves with a legal professional who can assist them with accident reconstruction and pursuing compensation in a legal filing.
