8-year-old suffers catastrophic injuries when hit by truck

New Jersey readers may be sad to hear about this story that hits close to home. The loss of a loved one is difficult, and this fatal pedestrian accident may make you downright angry. According to the news, an 8-year-old boy was struck by a tractor-trailer and killed when he was trying to cross the street in a crosswalk along 61st Street in New York City.

According to the report, the boy was trying to cross the street at around 8:00 a.m. when he was hit. The driver of the truck, a 51-year-old man from New Jersey, was arrested and charged at the scene. He was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and the operation of a motor vehicle that is in violation of safety rules. The man's charges are the default charges against unlicensed drivers who kill pedestrians in New York City, according to the news. The maximum penalty is only 30 days in jail and a fine of $500.

Reports state that the boy was with his 11-year-old sister when the accident happened. She left to get their mother for help, but unfortunately, the boy was pronounced dead when he was taken to Elmhurst Hospital. According to reports, this is the eleventh child to have been struck and killed by drivers in New York City this year.

30 days in prison or a small fine doesn't seem like enough to make up for the loss of life. If you've lost a loved one due to these kinds of circumstances, you may wish to look into your legal options.
