What are the no-zones around a truck?

A no-zone is an area around a vehicle that is dangerous and is the site of a significant number of accidents. All vehicles have no-zones, but in cars, they are called "blindspots." Regarding semi-trucks, there are four no-zones: front, side, rear, and wide-turns. This post will address each no-zone in turn.

The front no-zone is the area directly in front of a semi-truck. The front of the semi-truck is dangerous because trucks need a much longer distance to come to a complete stop than cars. Many drivers are not aware of this and therefore cut turns in front of trucks that are too close. You should give the truck plenty of space to see you and slow down.

The side no-zone are the areas on either side of the truck. Trucks sit very high up therefore their mirrors cannot reflect objects that are directly next to the truck. To be safe, you should avoid driving right next to a big rig.

The rear of big rigs is especially dangerous because truck drivers do not have rear view mirrors. Big rigs are attached to tractor-trailers which block most, if not all, of their rear window. Truck drivers are therefore forced to rely on their side mirrors, which does not allow them to see objects that are right behind them. If you cannot see yourself in the side mirrors, then the driver cannot see you.

Finally, trucks need to take wide turns. Many cars get stuck between the truck and curb because they do not appreciate that trucks aren't going straight, they are turning.

If you were injured in an accident with a negligent driver, then you may want to contact a lawyer to review your rights to compensation. An attorney can discuss the specifics of your case and the methods by which you can pursue compensation. Accidents involving trucks are often severe and can result in severe injuries. You don't want to accept a settlement offer that is too low because you will need this money to pay for your medical expenses for the near and far future. A lawyer can ensure that you get the money you deserve.
