July weekends are dangerous for New Jersey drivers

As a driver in the state of New Jersey, it's important to realize that you could be involved in an accident at any time. However, the N.J. Department of Transportation wants you to know that weekends in July are among the most dangerous.

According to data tracking by NJ Advance Media, July had the highest number of pedestrian and motorist fatalities. Over a 10-year period, there were 556 deaths during this month, which was higher than any other.

The report also went on to show that both fatalities and accidents were higher on the weekends, with approximately one-third occurring on these days. Taking this one step further, alcohol-related accidents were also highest on Saturdays and Sundays.

There are many reasons for the spike during the month of July, including the fact that travelers are making their way to and from the Jersey shores. Along with this, more teens are on the road during this month. A AAA spokesperson added the following: "With school out, there are more drivers on the roadways, more people taking vacations, and the congestion rate is higher."

If you are hitting the road during the month of July, make sure you understand just how dangerous it can be. This isn't to say that accidents don't occur at other times of the year, but the summer is even more dangerous.

If you find yourself involved in an accident, don't take your health for granted. Make sure this is top on your priority list, as you don't want an injury to go untreated.
