Objects left behind during a surgical procedure

Any type of surgery, regardless of the seriousness, can be stressful. You wonder if it will work. You wonder if anything will go wrong.

One thing you shouldn't have to think about is whether or not an object will be left inside of you. Unfortunately, this happens from time to time. When it does, it can lead to a variety of serious health concerns, and sometimes, even death.

It's easy to believe that a surgeon and his or her team would never make this type of mistake. However, there is a lot going on in a surgery room. For this reason, serious errors do happen.

Some of the objects that could be retained after your surgery include:

-- Needles

-- Surgical sponges

-- Broken needles

-- Clamps

As you can imagine, anything left in your body that is not supposed to be there can cause harm. Not to mention the fact that you will require another surgery in order to remove the foreign object.

If you have suffered an illness as the result of an object left behind, don't hesitate to learn more about your legal rights. While your health comes first, you also need to know who you can hold responsible for the mistake.
