Man taken into custody after car accident

According to recent news reports, a Jersey City man has been arrested for his involvement in a motor vehicle accident. Furthermore, his charges have been upgraded to death by auto after a passenger in the vehicle died from injuries suffered.

The 24-year-old man was taken into custody by authorities from the Hudson County Sheriff's Office at Christ Hospital.

On December 22, 2015, the man was involved in an accident in which he lost control of his 2010 Nissan Maxima, crashing into two parked cars and a tree. At the time, he was traveling 60 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone.

A passenger in the vehicle was recently pronounced dead at Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas for injuries suffered in the accident.

The driver has been taken to Hudson County Correctional Facility where he is being held on a $300,000 bail.

To go along with the charge of death by auto, the man was previously charged with careless driving, speeding, and driving while intoxicated.

The Hudson County Sheriff added the following:

"This tragic event shows the horrific consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol and should serve as a reminder of the loss of life that this illegal and irresponsible act can cause."

A motor vehicle accident can happen at any time, causing injuries to anybody who is involved. In the most serious of cases, an accident can lead to death. Even when a person is not drinking and driving, one can still be injured or killed in such an accident, either as a passenger or somebody in another vehicle.
