Truck driver charged in fatal accident in New Jersey

According to reports from July 18, a recent accident resulted in the death of a 59-year-old man from Trenton, New Jersey. That man was at an intersection in Lawrence when a man allegedly driving his dump truck erratically and at a high rate of speed struck his vehicle.

That crash could have been deadly on its own, but it took a turn for the worse in this case when the 59-year-old man's car was pushed over 200 feet into a park and then into a lake. The 59-year-old man was killed, left at the bottom of the lake for hours as emergency workers rushed to get the dump truck out of the water and to reach the victim.

The driver of the dump truck who may have been working for Scorer Trucking, was able to be pulled from the wreckage. The 38-year-old has been hospitalized for accident-related injuries. It's not clear if the man was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, because the report claims that he was discovered inside the damaged car, not in the dump truck.

The 38-year-old has been charged with death by auto along with other charges for the collision. Police believe that the other man's vehicle had been completely stopped at the time of the accident. Now, the injured 38-year-old will be held on a bail of $250,000, although he does remain hospitalized for his injuries.

This accident is still under investigation, but it seems fairly clear. If you've lost a loved one to this type of negligent driving, you too may be looking for ways to seek retribution. Looking into your legal rights is one way you can work toward seeking legal action that may result in compensation and civil penalties for the negligent driver in your case.
