Patient in New Jersey sues over doctor's lack of credentials

Have you been hurt by a doctor who was negligent when performing surgery in New Jersey? If so, then you'll probably understand what this patient has gone through while seeking retribution through a medical malpractice lawsuit. A report states that an anesthesiologist who performed a spine surgery has settled a malpractice lawsuit against him for $425,000; in total, the woman will receive $615,000 for the negligence the man showed.

She arrived for a three-level spinal fusion operation at the Cliffton same-day surgery center, but that's about all that went right that day, according to the news reports. The man who operated on the woman's spine was not an orthopedist. He was not a neurosurgeon, and he had little training. He reportedly had three weeks of hands-on training for minimally invasive spinal surgery, but that training was on cadavers.

The man had previously been convicted of manslaughter in England. There, he had administered anesthesia to a patient who later died. How did he get his license in New Jersey? It's claimed that no background check was completed. When he performed the operation on the woman in this case, he had no admitting privileges at New Jersey Hospitals.

The anesthesiologist claimed that the woman found his previous conviction online, and that's when she decided to sue him. He believed that she was fine prior to an accident in her home. He believed this despite the fact that he lacked training as a spinal surgeon. He's been part of several other malpractice cases, too, one of which was allegedly not paid out because his insurance claimed it was insuring him for anesthesiology, not surgical work. Luckily, in this woman's case, the insurer is expected to pay out what she's owed.
