Medical malpractice lawsuit settled for $425,000

It does not matter if you are one of our New Jersey readers or live in another part of the country, when you visit a medical professional for a procedure you expect the best care and treatment from beginning to end.

Recently, a New Jersey anesthesiologist who performed a spine surgery at a same-day surgery center settled a medical malpractice lawsuit for $425,000.

Not only did the operation lead to an investigation, but it eventually led to the doctor's medical license being taken away.

The 54-year-old woman is going to receive a total payment of $615,000, with $425,000 coming from the anesthesiologist and the rest from a pain doctor and the Bergen Passaic Ambulatory Surgery Center.

A state investigation turned up some scary information, noting that the anesthesiologist performed the seven hour long spinal fusion procedure in 2008, despite the fact that he was not a neurosurgeon or orthopedist and only had three weeks of training under his belt, all of which was on cadavers.

Before practicing medicine in New Jersey, he was convicted of manslaughter in England. However, he was able to make the transition to the United States because a background check was not performed.

There is a lot to this medical malpractice lawsuit, and it is good to see that the victim is receiving compensation from the anesthesiologist as well as other defendants. In the event that a person is injured as the result of medical malpractice, the victim must first take care of one's health and can then consider his or her legal options after that.
