South by Southwest festival a scene of horror due to drunk driver

If you've been watching the national news in New Jersey, it's likely that you've heard about this horrible story. According to the news, multiple pedestrian accidents caused by a drunk driver resulted in injuries and deaths at the popular South By Southwest festival in Texas. Now, that driver is being charged for his negligence.

According to the story, the drunk-driving suspect is a 21-year-old from Killeen, Texas. The young man is now in jail being held on bail of $3 million, reports claim. He's accused of driving through the street barricade at the South By Southwest festival, causing a number of people to be injured and killed. According to the reports, the man did not slow down when he saw pedestrians; the arrest warrant claims he may have accelerated as he approached.

The man has been charged with one count of capital murder so far, although it has been claimed that more charges can be added in the future. The Austin Police Chief claims that the man intentionally steered toward the pedestrians at the festival while he tried to get away from an officer who was trying to pull him over. The police chief claims that the 21-year-old may face up to 23 counts of aggravated assault with a vehicle and two capital murder charges for the incident.

The arrest warrant claims that the man said he was scared when he saw police lights behind him. He allegedly had arrest warrants out for him, which meant that he could have been placed in prison for up to five years. Those warrants were allegedly issued in relation to a custody battle over his daughter and potential kidnapping charges.

In this case, the man's BAC came back at .114. Initially, police reported that they only wanted to stop him because of the headlights on the car not being turned on. However, the man then cut through the block closed for the South By Southwest festival, which resulted in him hitting a number of concert-goers.
